The Burdekin Shire Council is excited to announce the appointment of the 2025 Burdekin Youth Council Executive, along with an upcoming event designed to celebrate and engage young people in the region

Leading the Youth Council this year is newly appointed Youth Mayor Nicole Cervoni (Burdekin Library Trainee and 2025 Young Citizen of the Year), alongside Deputy Youth Mayor William Wiseman (Year 8, Burdekin Christian College) and Secretary Cecelia Cason (Year 12, Burdekin Christian College).

With a passionate and driven team of 20 enthusiastic young people, the Burdekin Youth Council is set to represent and advocate for the youth of the Shire while contributing fresh ideas and initiatives that benefit the community.

As part of Queensland Youth Week celebrations, the Youth Council is hosting ‘Sound Waves – Youth Pool Party’, an event designed for young people aged 12-18 years.

The event will take place on Sunday 6 April, from 4pm to 8pm at the Burdekin Aquatic Centre in Ayr with free entry for all youth aged 12-18 years, including access to the pool and water park, a free sausage sizzle, live DJ, prizes, and giveaways. Drinks will also be available for purchase.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort said being part of the Youth Council is also a great learning experience, allowing members to collaborate with like-minded peers, develop leadership skills, and make a meaningful impact in their community.

"It is fantastic to see such a strong and engaged group of young leaders stepping up this year”, Mayor Dalle Cort said.

The Burdekin Youth Council encourages all young people to come along to Sound Waves – Youth Pool Party for an afternoon of fun, music, and social connection.
