AHCCC Registrations Now Open – Experience the Thrill of Cane Cutting

The Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival returns in 2025, bringing locals and visitors together for an exciting weekend showcasing the best of the Burdekin.
This family-friendly festival promises an unforgettable experience for all ages, featuring a mix of food, music, entertainment, and the much-anticipated Australian Hand Cane Cutting Championships.
The popular competition is a true test of skill and endurance, where competitors will battle it out with their cane knives, aiming to be crowned the Australian Hand Cane Cutting Champion.
With thousands of dollars in prize money up for grabs, it’s sure to be an event you won’t want to miss.
Spectators at the Saturday event will have the unique opportunity to walk through a paddock of burnt sugar cane and experience the gruelling, back-breaking work of a by-gone era.
Join the crowd and cheer on the courageous men and women as they swing their cane knives in an effort to secure the prestigious title.
While the cane cutting competition steals the spotlight, the festival grounds will offer something for everyone in the family.
Kids will be spoilt for choice with a wide range of free activities, including crafts, face painting, a petting zoo by Melville’s, Timmy the Train, a jumping castle, mechanical bull, mini ATVs, and the Gudjuda Rangers Turtle Viewing.
Adults can unwind by browsing the market stalls, exploring the Burdekin Machinery Preservationists display or tasting local delights at the Burdekin Rum Bar.

- Friday 30 May – Burdekin Cultural Fair featuring First Fire, 6:00pm to 10:00pm (Gates open at 5:00pm)
- Saturday 31 May – Australian Hand Cane Cutting Championships, 11:00am to 5:00pm (Gates open at 10:30am)
