Anzac Park Precinct
From design to reality - strategic planning for the Anzac Park Precinct Masterplan commenced in 2018 with the creation of conceptual designs, developed to enhance play, sports and recreational spaces within the area.
The Masterplan envisioned a water park gaining priority following the positive feedback received during community consultations in 2019. After careful planning and design the construction and installation of the Burdekin Water Park began in July 2022, later opening its doors to the public in February in 2023. This project came to fruition with funding from the Queensland Government's Works for Queensland Program.
In conjunction with the Burdekin Water Park, Council earmarked the Ayr Swimming Pool complex, now known as the Burdekin Aquatic Centre, for the construction of a new kiosk and entryway in the 2022/23 financial year. Thanks to funding from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Projects Program 2022, this project was completed in July 2023, in line with the commencement of the swim season.
The new kiosk serves as a central hub featuring a covered seating area and café-style service options offering clear visibility across the aquatic facility and water park.
The Macmillan Street upgrades have created a safe entrance to the new facility with a reconstructed two-way road, additional parking, pedestrian footpaths, and a shared crossing zone.
In June 2023, Council commenced the planning and design for the Anzac Park Precinct zones, including the detailed design of a Youth Zone. These design efforts were completed in December 2023.
Further construction projects in the Anzac Park Precinct will be announced as funding becomes available.
Council is proud to be working with all tiers of Government on delivering better infrastructure for the Burdekin Community.
