Councillor Callan Oar
Biography
Councillor Callan Oar established his own locally operated engineering business 12 years ago and is serving his first term as Councillor, elected in 2024.
Councillor Oar was born and raised in the Burdekin and undertook his Fitter and Turner apprenticeship with a local business, before working a short time in the local sugar mills and six years in mining. After establishing his own business, Callan who was once an apprentice has taken the initiative to teach other members of the community and has successfully trained six apprentices.
Callan is very involved in the community and is the current president of Golf North Queensland and Ayr Golf Club Junior Coordinator. He has also previously held the roles of Treasurer and Secretary with the Ayr Golf Club. With his family, Councillor Oar is currently involved in multiple community groups or sporting clubs and volunteers at most of these.
Councillor Oar has a keen interest in growth and creating provisions for growth, economic development, developing a community that is attractive to families and preserving the lifestyle, opportunity and freedom for youth that the Burdekin offered his generation when growing up. He describes himself as analytical, honest, open-minded, decisive and family-orientated.
Callan is married with three children.
