Discoloured Water
Burdekin Shire Council draws water from shallow underground aquifers with minimal treatment. Like much of the bore water in the delta, there are elevated levels of Managanese in this source of water. This sometimes results in discolouration of the water in the network, especially in areas with low water usage. It is not a health issue. Council continually monitors the health-based targets under Australian Drinking Water Standards and regularly scours mains to minimise this issue.
If residents do experience discoloured water they can report incidences of discoloured water in the Burdekin Shire water reticulation systems by contacting Council's Customer Service Centre. Council will flush the water mains to minimise the extent of the incident.
Council offers an after hours emergency service for water and wastewater problems.
This Council service does not include repairing faults associated with water and wastewater plumbing within your property.
