For the little ones
Toddler Time
- Burdekin Library Ayr – first three Wednesdays of the month at 10:30am (during school terms only).
Designed for children aged 18 months+, Toddler Time is the perfect session for those who are ready to move on from Baby Rhyme Time but aren’t quite ready to sit through Storytime. This half hour session is filled with nursery rhymes, action songs, dancing and reading to help children develop their early literacy, language, and social skills in a fun and safe environment. Children learn best from the important people around them, so we encourage all participants to model positive behaviour and join in the fun with their child.
Play Time
- Burdekin Library Ayr – last Wednesday of the month at 10:30am (during school terms only).
- Arch Dunn Memorial Park, Home Hill - last Saturday of the month at 9.30am (starts April 2024)
Play Time exposes children and parents to the world of open-ended play in the library. A great opportunity to let imaginations run wild, come along to our 45-minute play session, and discover toys, songs and books that support your child’s early literacy and language development.
Baby Rhyme Time
- Burdekin Library Ayr – every Thursday at 10:30am (during school terms only).
Baby Rhyme Time is a fun, interactive half hour program for children aged 0-2 and their families. Parents and carers can share in simple songs and action rhymes with their baby to grow their communication, language, and social skills. Play materials will be provided at the end and parents are encouraged to stay, chat and connect with the group afterwards.
Messy Play
- Last Thursday of every month, 10:30am at the Burdekin Library entrance (during school terms only)
Messy Play normally occurs on the last Thursday of every month and is perfect for children aged 0-5 years. Messy Play includes sensory play with paint, water, sand, slime, shaving foam and more. Messy Play fosters a child’s curiosity and imagination and encourages different ways of communicating and learning through hands on play. Messy Play sessions are held outside and it is recommended that children wear sun safe clothing, sun cream and bring a water bottle. Please note Messy Play replaces Baby Rhyme Time on the last Thursday of the month.
Storytime
- Burdekin Library Ayr – every Friday at 10:30am (during school terms only).
Storytime is a fun and interactive half hour program aimed at children aged 2 ½ years+ and their families. The half hour is full of interactive storytelling, singing and dancing with time afterwards dedicated to an activity, play and chat time for families. Storytime helps to build your child’s communication, language, and early literacy skills through positive adult-child interactions.
