Get Ready Week set to prepare residents before disaster season
Burdekin residents will have the chance to win a generator and learn how to prepare their home and neighbourhood ahead of disaster season as part of Get Ready Queensland Week from 10-17 October.
Get Ready Queensland Week provides communities with resources and encouragement to ensure they are prepared for the State’s disaster season, which runs from November to May.
Burdekin Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Chair Lyn McLaughlin said Council Officers would be in the main streets of Ayr and Home Hill next week with information stalls to provide residents with further assistance and the chance to win a generator for their home.
“To mark Get Ready Queensland Week 2021, Burdekin Shire Council’s Local Disaster Coordinator and Disaster Management Officer will be in front of Rockmans on Queen Street, Ayr on Monday and in front of IGA on Eighth Avenue, Home Hill on Tuesday between 8:30am and midday with a range of brochures and merchandise – and every person who visits the stalls will go in the draw to win a 2KvA generator,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“On Wednesday, the information stall will move to the foyer of the Burdekin Library Ayr branch from 9am until midday which will also feature a special First 5 Forever Storytime where we read the Queensland Government’s natural disaster story books including Birdie and the Flood and Birdie and the Drought.
“These are story books written by Queenslanders and for Queenslanders, helping our children understand, prepare for and stay safe in the event of natural disasters. I invite all Burdekin families to join us at the Burdekin Library from 9am next Wednesday to join in the fun.”
Get Ready Queensland Week runs from 10-17 October. Information stalls will be held from 8:30am-midday on Monday 11 October outside Rockmans on Queen Street, Ayr and Tuesday 12 October outside IGA on Eighth Avenue, Home Hill before visiting the Burdekin Library Ayr branch from 9am-midday on Wednesday 13 October.
