Further Long Lunch special guests announced
Jules Sebastian will be joined by a range of inspiring women when the Ladies Long Lunch arrives at the Burdekin Memorial Hall on Sunday 20 March.
Fellow guest speakers include the 2020 SA AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award recipient Stephanie Schmidt, North Queensland personality Brooke Winterstein and local GP Dr Amanda Marano. The event will include presentations from each woman before a panel discussion and Q&A is held.
Stephanie Schmidt, a South Australian Clinical Psychologist, farmer, mum, and founder of ACT for Ag, said the event would mark her first appearance in Queensland.
“I’m very excited to be travelling to the Burdekin for the Ladies Long Lunch – this will be my first time in Queensland since 2019, so I’m looking forward to meeting residents and sharing a bit of my story,” Mrs Schmidt said.
“While I am a Clinical Psychologist, I also work on the farm and will share many experiences with these women of wearing the many hats that regional women do wear with the juggle of working, supporting a family, managing a farm, but also frequently stuffing up along the way! It’s important we all understand it’s okay to make these mistakes, and that there’s tools we can put in place to not only make things better for others, but for ourselves.
“Within agriculture and small businesses in particular, I’ve found there’s a strong intertwined relationship between business, family and friends, and it’s often not possible to separate one from the others. By providing people with the tools to look at not only what their shared purpose is but why they’re doing what they do and how they can put structures in place to support them in both business and family life, they will notice an improvement in all relationships.
“Women of our generation in particular grew up with our mums working fulltime and raising a family, so now we are in the mindset that we also need to do everything. An important lesson for everyone, man and woman, is that, yes, we can do everything – but not all at the same time.
“It’s also important that we take the time to understand what is most important to us as an individual, prioritising that, letting go of some things which may not have a place, and find magic in the little moments.”
