The Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival has teamed up with ephemeral designer Freya, from Mopoke Designs to bring an exclusive art installation to the festival on Friday 26 – Saturday 27 May 2023.
‘Arts by the Sparks’, is a significant art piece representing the Burdekin region and engaging local artists to empower the community. The first of its kind to hit the festival, this art installation project is set to showcase from the opening of the Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival.
Freya, from Mopoke Design, will collaborate with local artists including those from the Burdekin Art Society, Burdekin Artisans, senior high school students and any interested community members to create the installation. As part of the project, the community will also have the unique opportunity and experience to actively participate in the creation.
Three workshops will be held on Friday 19 – Sunday 21 May 2023 from 9am-12pm, to engage community members in the building process, providing them with a chance to contribute to the artistic vision and gain new skills. The workshops will serve as a collaborative space where participants can work alongside the project team to bring the vision to life.
Engaging with this project will provide individuals with opportunities for upskilling, growth, and development while fostering a sense of pride in the project and the community.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said ‘Arts by the Sparks’ is an excellent opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate art, culture, and creativity.
"We are thrilled to bring ‘Arts by the Sparks’ to the Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival this year as an extraordinarily new piece bringing the first of its kind to the Festival," Cr McLaughlin said.
