Successful Load Testing, Waste Collection Resumes in Jerona
Burdekin Shire Council is pleased to announce the resumption of waste collection services in Jerona, following the successful load testing conducted last week on the causeway.
Effective Monday 12 June, waste collection services will be fully operational and the current skip positioned on the opposite side of the causeway will be removed.
A load restriction of 4 tonnes was enforced on the causeway following damage from the rain event. The load restriction will be increased to 7.5 tonnes which will accommodate heavier vehicles, including the waste collection truck.
Despite the increased load capacity, it is important to note that the width and speed restrictions will remain in place.
These measures are necessary to prevent any further damage to the causeway structure and maintain its integrity until the new causeway is installed.
Road users are asked to respect the weight restriction of 7.5 tonnes to ensure safety and to allow the causeway to be utilised until final construction can be planned.
If drivers are caught not adhering to the restriction, they will be reported to the police for further action.
Council expresses its gratitude to the residents for their patience and understanding during the temporary suspension of waste collection services.
Waste collection services will return to normal in Jerona, from Monday 12 June with an increased load limit of 7.5 tonnes. For further information or any queries regarding the resumption of waste collection services, please contact Council Customer Service on 4783 9800.
