Jerona Causeway now open
Burdekin Shire Council is pleased to announce the Jerona Road Causeway is now open after repairs have cured and successful load testing was conducted earlier today.
In February 2024, a further flooding event impacted the Causeway again resulting in additional severe damage making the road unusable. As water levels took several days to subside officers were not able to inspect and assess the extent of the damage straight away. On Monday morning favourable tides allowed Council to repair the damage to the causeway promptly.
Jerona Road has remained closed for the week as the concrete repair works required sufficient time to cure. This ensured the repairs achieved the required strength to support the structure.
Load testing on the causeway was completed successfully earlier today and Council is pleased to inform the community that the road is now re-opened with the 8-tonne load limit and lower speed limit in place.
Council understands the closure of the causeway has been inconvenient to residents and those who frequent the road and appreciates your understanding during this time.
