New Locations for New Community Christmas Trees
Burdekin Shire Council is excited to announce that this year, the community Christmas Trees will be relocated to two new locations: outside the Burdekin Theatre in Ayr and the Home Hill Comfort Stop.
This change aims to make the new trees more accessible, safer, and enjoyable for families and visitors throughout the festive season and also coincides with the launch of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal.
Mayor Pierina Dalle Cort said that while the traditional location in Ayr at the roundabout has been a wonderful spot in the past, Council wanted to make the experience safer and more welcoming for everyone.
“The roundabout location has served us well, but Council has identified that relocating the new Christmas Trees offers some fantastic benefits. The existing Christmas trees are over 30 years old, have structural damage and are aging, making them ready for a well-deserved retirement,” Mayor Dalle Cort said.
“This move prioritises safety for both our community members and Council workers and reduces the risks some people take to capture a photo on a busy road.
“In addition to improving safety, this move addresses concerns about the living tree’s maintenance at the Burdekin Theatre that needs to be removed, as it often makes a mess and blocks the building facade.
“Council recognises that there are mixed feelings around the location changes and we understand change can be difficult, but we see this as a wonderful opportunity to create a safer, family-friendly environment.
“Families can now enjoy the Christmas Trees up close, in spacious locations that are ideal for gathering, celebrating, and taking holiday photos without the concern of busy traffic."
The new locations offer ample space for people to gather and enjoy holiday festivities. The Burdekin Theatre provides a well-lit, easily accessible spot for Ayr residents, while the Home Hill Comfort Stop offers a beautiful and central location for the Home Hill community. These areas will help make the new Christmas Trees a focal point of joy and celebration for families across the Shire.
As part of the improvements, Council is also looking at enhancing the roundabout with a new garden display to keep it vibrant all year round, providing a welcoming feature for residents and visitors alike.
“I am also delighted to launch the inaugural Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal and I am looking forward to seeing our community come together around the new tree locations and support families in need this Christmas.
“It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a safe, festive atmosphere and make lasting memories.”
