The Burdekin Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) moved to Stand Up in preparation for potential further heavy rainfall and damaging winds at a special meeting of core members this evening.
LDMG Chair Lyn McLaughlin said the move ensured all agencies were activated and on alert in case of extended periods of heavy rainfall.
“The LDMG is activating due to Bureau of Meteorology updates regarding the weather system over North Queensland. I want to assure residents that they should not panic, however should ensure they have no debris in their yards and emergency kits are well-stocked in the event of isolation,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“While rain has been sporadic across our Shire, we should be wary of how quickly conditions can change.
“For the latest updates, residents should regularly tune in to local news bulletins and check the Burdekin Disaster Dashboard and Bureau of Meteorology for information and advice. Anyone who does require emergency assistance should call the SES on 132 500. Remember: if it’s flooded, forget it.”
