Governor of Queensland experienced the best of the Burdekin
The Burdekin was on full display this morning as it was showcased to His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, who spent the morning touring the Shire.
His Excellency met Burdekin Shire Councillors and was provided an overview of the Shire before visiting St Francis Catholic School for an assembly and book reading, attending a formal morning tea reception with community representatives, and then presenting a special First 5 Forever Storytime at Plantation Park.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said it was an incredible privilege to welcome His Excellency to the Shire.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, for taking the time to visit our Shire and meet so many of the people who make our community such a fantastic place to live, work, play and invest,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“Council was honoured to welcome His Excellency this morning to discuss the Burdekin’s footprint not only on the Queensland economy, but the global economy with our thriving agricultural industry. Following this, St Francis Catholic School students were all very respectful, attentive, and represented the Burdekin Shire with pride as they hosted a special assembly to welcome His Excellency before grade one students were treated to a reading of his picture book, Gavel Find his Place.
“It was a great privilege to accompany His Excellency on the tour of our Shire; His Excellency took the time to meet with community representatives who attended a formal reception morning tea at the Burdekin Theatre and spoke of the importance of Queensland’s regions, before we travelled to Plantation Park for a special Storytime and lunch at the Gudjuda Deck Café.
“I want to thank everyone in the Burdekin for demonstrating what a fantastic community we are a part of: the Burdekin shone today, and it was thanks to each and every resident.”
